2011-2012 x Regular Season
3rd Place in State

3rd Place in State

3rd Place in State

For state in our bracket they ended up adding two teams to our division.  Thus creating a set-up were we had to play two pool games.  With this said we started out with a game against Minnetonka.  We started out hot a build a nice half time lead of 25-16.  In the second half we gave up to many easy baskets but held on to a 38-34 win.

In our second game we played Chanhassen.  This was a very physical game.  We managed to hold a 23-20 advantage at the half.  In the second we pulled away at the end to win 49-42.  We had 8 different kids score in each of the halves.  Great job sharing the basketball.

In the first round of bracket play we faced Prior Lake.  This was a great match up.  With every  possession being crutial, we held a 16-13 half time lead.  In the second half we managed gain as much as a 10 point lead, but could not hold on to it.   With some clutch free throws down the stretch we held on to a 35-30 win.

In the semi-finals we faced Stewartville.  They are a very athletic team.  This was another physical game.  This was back and forth thruout the whole game.  With some late fouls Stewartville ended up winning 43-35.

In the third place game we faced Pierz.  We had early opportunites in the first half but couldn't capitalize.  We held a 18-13 lead at half.  Pierz had 4 three pointers and one free throw in the first half.  No two point buckets.  In the second half we played some of our best basketball.  With some great passing and some tenacios defense we build and double digit lead and never looked back.  Final score was 44-30.

What an awesome way to end the year.    In recap your final record was 27-15.  After your first three tournaments of 2-7 you then went on a 25-8 run.  On that run you were 3-7 against (A) teams and 22-1 against B teams.

Fantastic season boys.  It was a pleasure coaching  you and getting to know your families.

Champions in Rochester

Champions in Rochester

What a great weekend in Rochester.

We started out with a very good Eagan team.  This was a battle from the beginning.  In the first half this game was back and forth.  We held on to a one point lead 22-21.  In the second half our defense came out.  We held Eagan to only 7 second half points.  Final score was 42-28.

In the second game we played a very physical Farmington team.  At times this game might have been closer to a football game than a basketball game.  The half time score was 15 all.  Both team scoring two touchdowns.  In the second half Farmington won the first part of this half gaining a 10 point lead.  With a very long time out we came out and went on 9-0 run to get us back in this contest.  We eventually gained a 5 point lead with 8 seconds left. Farmington hit a three pointer that closed the gap to 2.  Final score was 41-39.

In our next game we played Lakeville North.  In this game we failed to show up at the free throw line in the first half going 3-13.  Somehow we managed to stay in this contest being down only 4 points by half.  In the second half it was time for Lakeville North to struggle finding the bottom of the net.  With good solid defense and unselfish play we won this game 37-29.  We held Lakeville North to only 9 second half points and everyone found the scoring column.  Great team effort.

In the championship game we faced East Ridge.  We decided we only needed to play one half of basketball in this game.(Not what the coach wanted)  We almost scored enough points to make this happen.  The halftime score was 25-8.  To many turnovers kept this game closer than it should have been.  East Ridge was never able to get this game into single digits.  Final score was 37-26.

Great, great weekend boys.  Your first two opponents ended up playing for the consolation championship.  You were tested all the way through this tournament and answered on every level.

One last tournament!  State!!!

Let's go have some more fun.

Battle in Wayzata

We started our 3 games in 5 hours with Elk River.  We came out strong and scored 27 first half points.    Without letting up in the second half the boys shared the ball and won this game 46-31.  Good defense helped secure this win.

These guys sure know how to keep their parents heart rate up.  We started out very slow and gave up a big lead to start the game.   We were down as many as 10 points.  We crawled back to within 4 points at half.  In the second half Woodbury lead most of the way.  However these boys never gave up.  One of the Woodbury boys hit three free throws with no time on the clock to tie this game at 48 and send it to overtime.  In the overtime period we had a one point lead with 5 seconds left and the same boy hit two more clutch free throws to win this by one 51-50.

In our last game of the evening we didn't have much energy left.  Benilde won this game 53-38.  Highlight for this game is that everyone managed to hit the scoring column. Great unselfish basketball.

In our last game of the tournament we played Eden Prairie C1 team that had came out hot in our first meeting.  This game was our turn to have the fast start.   We came out with 23-15 lead and could have opened this contest even more if would have hit our free throws.  In the second half we let EP back in this contest.  To many turnovers almost cost us the contest.  We held on for a 38-36 win.  Nice weekend of basketball for the boys and now we will get ready for Rochester.

Champions in Armstrong

Champions in Armstrong

What a fantastic weekend in Armstrong.

We started out with a very tough game with Osseo/Maple Grove.  We managed to take a 22-16 lead into the half.  However in the second half was a much different half.  Osseo/Maple Grove put a run of their own together and took a 5 point lead with three and half minutes left in the game.  We never gave up and kept the pressure until the end of the game.  With a run of our own at the end of the game we won 54-48.  What a great team effort with everyone scoring and only one player with 10 points.  Great game boys.

In our next game we played Cooper.  We held Cooper to 5 first half points.  With much of the same in the second half we won 46-13.

In our third game we played Orono.  This was a first for us.  Everyone scored at least one bucket in the first half.  We led 30-11 at half.  In the second half we had 9 of our 10 kids score.  Another great team effort.   Final score was 54-27.

In the championship game we faced Hopkins' A team for a rematch.  Hopkins came out strong, just as they did in our first match up.  Hopkins was ahead by as many as 6 points in the first half.  We managed to inch ourselves within four points at half.  Hopkins took the half time lead 22-18.  In the second half we managed to tie the score within the first couple of minutes.  From this point on it was a battle.  The score went back and forth for the remainder of the game.    We kept the aggression up and held on to a 38-36 win for our second championship.

Congrats Boys.  We now have a weekend off before the Wayzata Tournament.

A well deserved rest.

Edina Tournament

In our first game of the tournament we faced Eden Prairie.  Eden Prairie caught fire in the first half shooting around 80% from the field.  Five of the these were from the three point line.  First half score was 33-16.  We outscored Eden Prairie in the second half 25-18.  Not enough to overcome our first half deficit.  Final score was 51-41.  Everyone contributed with at least one rebound and eight of our ten kids scored.

In our second game we played Park Center.  We had lost earlier to this team so it was nice to be able to play them again.  We were hot from the get go.  We scored 28 first half points. Much of the same in the second half holding Park Center to only 10 second half points.   Here again all ten  kids tallied at least one rebound.  Final score was 49-28.

In our final game we played Benilde.  This was another game we came out of the blocks very slow.    Half time score was 31-17.    We started to claw our way back but  to many second chance points for Benilde and turnovers for us  was tough to overcome.  Final score was 49-35.

We now get ready for the Armstrong Tournament.

2nd Place in Hopkins

Runner-up in Hopkins

What another exciting weekend in Hopkins for the B2 team.

We started very slow out of the blocks.  Believe it or not we only had 9 points at half time and we were still in the lead.  We played some good defense in the second half and won the game at the free throw line.  Final score was 38-34.

We then followed up with our best team game of the year.  We played Albany.  Albany had beat Chaska with running time in the previous game.  We came out of the game with solid defense and very unselfish offense.  Albany hit a big basket before half time to cut the lead to single digits.  Half time score was 26-19.  We attacked the rim again in the second half and really never looked back.  We won the by a score of 50-31 with 9 of players hitting the scoring column and 8 of our guys recording at least one rebound.  We took care of the ball recording only 7 turnovers.  Great game guys.

In the championship game we faced a very big Jordan team.  We started the game giving Jordan the first 14 points of the game.  However the boys kept battling.  We closed the gap to 4 points in closing the half being down 20-16.  In the second half we kept chipping away at the lead and eventually taking the lead with 3 minutes to go.  We missed a couple of opportunities in the closing minutes giving Jordan the lead.  Jordan held on to  win the game 47-45.

What a great weekend of basketball.  Those last two games proved what this team is made of.  Never giving up and playing team basketball.

We have another off weekend a will continue this fun road.

Feed my starving children is next our docket.

Champs in Andover

Champions in Andover

CHAMPIONS IN ANDOVER

What a great weekend in Andover.  I was a little scared coming out of the holidays but boy did they surprise me.  We started out with 8:00 am game against Rogers.  I'm always nervous about 8 am games anyway.  The boys started out lights out hitting over 60% of the shots from the field in the first half and holding Rogers to just 9 first half points.   Half time score was 23-9.  Not quite the same in the second half.  The 8 o'clock blues for the start of the second half.  We finished strong to end of the game with a  win 40-33.

Or second game was with Armstrong.  We started out with another strong first half to double their score 22-11.  The second half was much of the same.  We finished the game with 9 of our 10 kids in the scoring column and 9 of our 10 kids getting at least 1 rebound.  Final score was 46-38.

This was by far our best come back game of the year.  We started the game down 12-2. With much of the same happening, we ended the first half down 20-13.  This is were the word relentless comes into play.  These kids never gave up.  They kept inching closer and closer as the game went on.  We did not take the lead until 1:30 left in the game.  We did an awesome job finishing this game to hold on 38-36.  This was another total team win.  All 9 guys had at least one rebound with 8 of our 9 kids getting into the scoring column.   Great, great win!

In the championship game we faced Blaine.  We started the game down 7-2.  We played some solid defense to build a 26-15 lead.  It was much of the same for the rest of the game.  The gap was never closer than 7 points for a great 48-36 win.   As you can see by their pictures, they had a wonderful time in Andover.

This was a fun tournament for friends and familiy at the games this weekend.  The boys have now won 8 out of their last 10 games.  They are a joy to watch and coach.

We have next weekend off before we get ready for the Hopkins Tournament and more importantly, "Feed My Starving Childred".

All I have to say is "Champions in Andover".  Great Job!!!!!

Chanhassen Tournament

Very exciting tournament  for the 8B2 team.  We started out in tough battle with Shakopee.  We managed only nine first half points.  With a very slow start we found ourselved down 16-9 at the half.   We fought our way back into this ball game to take a 4 point lead with less than a minute to go.  Shakopee ended up tieing the game at 35 to send the game into overtime. We took control of the overtime to score all 5 points in overtime to win 40-35.  A very good win for our team.

Our next game started within 15 minutes of our first game ending.  The game was with Woodbury's A team.  We started out fast and held a 19-13 half time lead.  We had way to many turnovers in the second half to eventually lose the game 38-31.

In the 3rd place game we faced Edina.  We had 2 previous loses to this same Edina Team.  This game was very physical.  Both teams battled back and forth.  We took a small lead into half time at 23-20.  In the second we took over the game and never really looked back.  We played by far the best team basketball of the year.  Every player on the roster scored with 6 of our players having at least five rebounds a piece.  A great team victory with everyone contributing on both sides of the floor.  What a great way to go into the holidays with.

I hope everyone has fun with their families this Holiday Season!

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

2nd Place Finish in Orono

2nd Place in Orono

By far our best outing of the year.  We had a tough draw having to face the winner of the Orono/Prior Lake game.  Prior Lake came out on top and that who our first opponent was.   Our normal pattern started out by letting Prior Lake jump out to a 7-2 lead.  But our defense was outstanding.  Prior Lake was stuck on 9 points for much of the first half .  Half time score was 14-11 us.  We continued with tough defense and held Prior Lake to only 11 second half points.  Final was 32-22.

Our second game was against Armstrong.  I know I sound like a broken record but Armstrong jumped out 9-2 to start.  We scratched our way back gain a 19-16 half time lead.   In the second we continued to play good basketball and never looked back winning 42-36.  Nine of ten guys found the scoring column.    We also had 6 guys having 4 or more rebounds.  A great team game.

In the Championship game we face Andover's "A" team.  They were a very athletic team.  We played a very good 1st half of basketball.  Andover scored two late baskets in the first half to take a 29-20 lead.  In the second half we ran out of gas.  Andover continued to beat us down court and won the Championship Game.

This was a great showing by the boys.  They played great defense, shared the basketball and had a lot of fun on the court.

Chanhassen is next.

Struggle in Maple Grove

We started out this game the same we've started on all our games this year by getting down early.   We clawed our way back in the first half to be down by only one 26-25.  In the second half we managed only 12 points and lost 44-37.

In the second game we played Edina.  In this game we managed only 11 first half points.  With good defense we were only down by 4.  With only 11 points in the second half we ended with only 22 totol points.  We're hoping to get this fixed.  Final score 32-22.

In our final game we played Park Center.  We fell behind by double digits to start the game. The first half was much of the same with scoring only 9 first half points.  Half time score was 31-9.  This game was played consecutively with our second game.  The boys were very tired.  The second half the boys came out to play.  We took 38 shots in this half and outscored Park Center 29-13.  Unfortunately we dug ourselves to big of a hole in the first half that we couldn't over come.   Final score 44-38.

We played those last two game with 8 and they left everything on the court.  I'm hoping we can keep up the intesity  from the second half moving into our next tournament.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Eden Prairie Tournament

In our first game we were matched up against Rosemount.  We started out fast a build a nice lead.  Rosemount came back and we led at half time 21-17.  Rosemount came out in the second half with scoring the first 11 points of the half.  We were not able to come back after that.   Final score 47-37 Rosemount.  We had 9 of our players find the scoring column, with everyone getting at least one rebound.

In our second game we played Minnetonka.  In this game we had our most productive half of the year.  We scored 30 points.  In the second half it was much of the same.  We had 9 different guys score and we won by an impressive 55-33 score.  This was by far our best game of the year on both offense and defense.  Great job!

In our last game we had a rematch with Edina.  We came out strong with a 8-0 lead.  However, we let Edina back in the ball game and they hit a jump shot right before the half time buzzer to give them a 13-12 lead.   To many turnovers cost us in the second half.  Edina pulled away and won 34-25.

We next get ready for the Orono Tournament.

Opening tournament in Eagan

We started out by playing Woodbury in our first game of the season.  We started out down 9-0.  The ball would not find the bottom of the net.  We fought our way back to only be down 1 at half with a score of 22-21.

In the second half it went back and forth.  To many turnovers got the best of us and we lost 42-40.  Highlight is having 8 different people in the scoring column with no one more than 8 points.

In our second game we faced a tough Eden Prairie team.  We started out slow again and fell behind 29-15.  The second half stayed the same with EP on top 53-32.

In our last game we played Inver Grove Heights.  Again we started out behind.  I think I'm sounding like a broken record.  Our defensive intesity picked up in this game.  With a very low scoring half we took the lead 15-12.  In the second we built a comfortable lead only to make the game a lot closer than it should have been with Inver Grove Heights hitting some clutch 3 pointers at the end of the game.  We held on long enough to win 35-32.

No time to rest with the OMGAA tournament coming up.  It was nice to get the season underway.

Great hustle this weekend!
